Stuck in an bad teen-aged, high school movie
I wouldn’t go back to high school on a bet. I have a lot of
friends I keep in touch with and I have my fond memories. But there is no way I
would go back to those years where we were all trying to define ourselves and
struggling to understand how responsible people act in relationships and in
society.
Yet there are days I feel like I’m right back in the halls
of high school watching it all

Masters of illusion
Who needs Vegas? I think David Copperfield has been working some
illusionary magic in the state of Alabama.
It seems that someone has kept a 300-mile toll road project hidden
from public view for some time. Only a master of illusion like the guy who made
the Statue of Liberty disappear and then reappear could perform a trick like
that.
But a company called Ameri-Metro came forward this

Creative thinking, aka left-handed logic
If you are going to be an
owner-operator in the trucking world, that is a true o/o who becomes the one
who makes business decisions, is responsible for repairs, maintenance, etc. If
you are the one who spends your money as opposed to having escrow accounts,
settlement deductions, and someone else making those decisions and then doling
out whatever is left – then being able to think outside the

Clearing the air
The decision may have flown under the trucking radar, but a
recent White House move may have delayed hundreds of local emissions rules and
ordinances due to our economic downturn.
An ozone standard of 75 parts per billion, announced by the
Bush administration in 2008, would not be sought by the EPA, President Obama
announced in early September.

It ain’t chipped in stone
I saw a bumper sticker on an 18-wheeler: “THIS ISN’T AN RV.”
Well, that could be right I suppose, but on the other hand – if you have the
mind-set for it and can line up your ducks just right, a big truck can serve as
a fine RV. And all the while doing your job hauling freight.
The last 26 years my wife Geri and I had our fuzzy little friends
marching to the same drum. Number one, you have to

When does cute cross the line?
Have you or your kids played Angry Birds yet?
In the video game, pigs have taken eggs from a bird’s nest.
You use a slingshot to hurl birds in a suicide mission to try to take out the
pigs.
With a reported 300 million downloads, Angry Birds has
become so mainstream culturally that you can buy stuffed animals bearing the
likeness of these cartoon birds and pigs made famous by a game that

If I were in the editor’s chair …
I’m one of those guys who picks up most of the free pubs in
the truck stops, and at home I enjoy an assortment of trucking magazines. I
have some advice for the people that write some of the articles, from the
trucker point of view.
It seems that sometimes when they do stories or profiles on
drivers they just print whatever the driver says without thinking if it could
be anywhere in the
